Went anyway!

I walked today and read my Kindle.  Plus my husband let the kids go to his office and color.  It was a wonderful workout.  I forgot how nice it is to read while I walk.  I did sooo well in October when I was walking and reading.  Trying to run really messed me up.  I'll keep up with the walking a bit longer.  See how much weight I can lose in January.  Start running again in February?

Day one of Marathon training.

I'm adding in the time that I do weights.  I do a 10min warm up at 3.5mph, reset the machine, do my 5k and do a 5min cool down.  Then I go to weights.  I suppose now that I am training I should cut it down to exactly what my training schedule says I should do.  This is what I'm following: http://www.halhigdon.com/marathon/MaraNovice1.html 

Going to do Novice 1, skipping the marathon, then I'm going to start Intermediate 1.  Maybe.  Maybe I'll do Novice 2.  I guess we'll see how these first 18 weeks go.  I AM getting new shoes for Christmas.  I probably won't start wearing them til after the first of the year though.  And I'll need new shoes later in the year too.  They say new shoes every 500 miles.

I feel great today. :)  The run was a bit hard at first.  I just couldn't get my heart rate up.  I am always sluggish when I try to keep my heart rate low.  I don't start feeling great til it's 160 or so.  My average today was 137.  I just can't sustain 160 for the full 3 miles.  But only being at 140-ish I haven't even really warmed up yet!

YAY I'm back!

I didn't go for very long today.  Want to work my way back into it.  My knee doesn't hurt.  I feel pretty good too.  I ran at 6mph for 5 min twice.  Never done that before.  Pretty exciting.  I think I'll stay at 30min until I can run at 6mph for the full 30min, then increase my time.  I tend to make these plans and never end up really sticking to them!

Thinking of going back

to the gym next week.  I was hoping to lose a bit more on Atkin's.  I have a hard time not drinking!  I've been craving sugar in the evenings lately, and instead of eating crap I've started drinking again.  I'm sure my cravings are related to my cycle.  Hopefully those will go away soon and I can see the scale move a bit more.  Although it's been all over the place this week.  Monday was 180, Tuesday 174, Wednesday 170, then today back up to 177.  GRRRRR! lol

You're gonna get sick of hearing about my knee!

Sunday Nov 13th:
90min, 2.75-ish miles, 497cal.  We went on a hike as a family.

Monday the 14th:
75min, 4.86mi, 633cal  I did 40min on the treadmill.  I tried running but my knee hurt to bad.  I tried doing the incline walk but I just couldn't get my heart rate up as high as I would like.  Darn this getting fitter! lol  I then did 35min on an elliptical.

My knee was excruciating the rest of the day.  I iced it several times and stayed off of it as much as I could.  Not easy with 3 of my own kids, another I watch, and having to transfer yet another kid from preschool to day care!  It does feel a lot better this morning.  Although now my foot hurts.  I think I have heel spurs.  YAY it never ends! lol  I have some left over Percocet from surgery I had back in July, I was very tempted to take it.  I didn't.  I don't want to mask the pain, do something stupid to make it worse.

I'm thinking of taking a few weeks off from the gym.  The idea terrifies me.  I don't want to get depressed again like I was.  The gym got me out of it.  But if I blow my knee completely I may never get to go back again.  I'm thinking of attempting Atkin's while I'm off of the gym.  Last time I did it I lost quite a bit of weight, but got lax with it (and my depression got to me) and gained it all back.  Cut carbs and gym time for 2 weeks, then introduce carbs and gym time back slowly.  You're not supposed to work out at all during the first 2 weeks of Atkin's anyway.  Maybe if I can lose some more weight, when I do start back at the gym my knee won't hurt so bad.

Shouldn't have started running

I really shouldn't have.  My knees are hurting all the time now.  I didn't go today at all, and probably won't tomorrow.  Maybe I'll go just 3x a week, which means I won't get my November minute goal.  The other day I tried doing the elliptical and it was really hard to get into it.  I just wanted to run!  The worst part about the elliptical, I think, was the lighting.  There was a glare on my Kindle so I couldn't even read.  Plus it's hard to pace myself, I end up going to fast or to slow.  I can't even walk with an incline anymore.  I don't even know if shoes would help much anymore.  I'm to heavy to run on my knees I think.  I just found out that my aunt had to get knee replacement and she isn't even 50 yet.  My grandfather didn't get his replaced til he was 85!

Yesterday I did have my personal best on a treadmill 5k.  Less than 38min, and that was with a 3min walking warm-up.

Cheated yesterday

I had 3 slices of pizza and 5 drinks with 2oz of Bourbon and Diet Pepsi.  Way over on calories, but I felt great this morning.  Not even hung over!  Had a wonderful run.  Stayed at an even 5mph and got my 5k to less than 38min for the first time.  Granted this is on a treadmill.  Right now I'm concentrating on losing the weight before I really start training.  Plus the only indoor track is super short.  Takes 14 laps to go one mile.  That's 44 laps for a 5k.  BORING!! lol

Knee is better today.

I didn't add any jogging/running today.  My knee didn't hurt at all.  Very happy with that.  Also got in an extra 5 min.  Not much, but I am behind on my goal for the month.  I have to do 62min every day for the rest of the month to catch up.  I can do that. :)  I CAN do that.  I *WILL* do that! :)

Weights were good too.  I don't really lift much.  I only do one set of 20 reps.  I know I should be doing less weight, fewer reps and doing another set, but I'm good with what I'm doing. :)  For now at least.

Right knee is borked

My right knee is really starting to hurt.  I stopped early today more because I had to pee.  It's a little hard to walk with your bladder splashing around.  Lifting weights worked my kegels more than my arms I think! lol  I'll have to look up some exercises to strengthen my knees.  I won't be able to train for a marathon with weak knees.  Although I do blame most of it on my shoes.  They are so old.

I hate my period

It's putting me behind.  I didn't go to the gym yesterday cuz I was cramping like a bitch.  And I don't wanna go today cuz I'm bleeding every where.  Yay it's fun to be a girl.  It's my first since starting to work out again.  Sometimes it's nice that I'm so irregular!  I have to make up some time at the gym to reach my October goal.  I'm hoping once my husband is home I might be able to go by myself for an hour and a half instead of just an hour.

After 3 days off from the gym today's workout was amazing!  Very happy about what I did on the treadmill.  At the end I was able to sustain my heart rate at 160-ish bpm for 10 min.  I figure if I wanna run a marathon I'm going to have to do that for 4 hours!

I really can't wait until I'm able to get my new shoes.  I wanna start running!!

Sluggish today

I had a hard time moving today.  Not so much sore, just sluggish.  My legs didn't want to cooperate!

I'm finding that I'm having to work harder to get my heart rate up and burn the same calories I did before.  I think it might be time for me to change equipment.  Maybe I'll give the stair climber a try next time.  I can't start running til I get new shoes, hopefully Christmas.  I also need to lose a few more pounds before I want to start running.  Two hundred lbs on my knees just hurts!

I did gain back 3lbs this weekend.  I'm sure it's just water weight.  I did have some Scotch Friday and Saturday night, along with a few to many calories.  It was just one weekend.  I have to make sure I don't let that happen when my husband comes home from this business trip.  He's been gone for 4wks now, and has 2 more left.  It's been easy to follow my eating plan and working out without him here.  I serve the kids what they like then I eat what I want.  I don't know if that will fly when he gets home.

Nature Hike

My family and I went camping this weekend.  While my husband was packing up he let me go for the 5.5 mile nature hike at the campground.  It was about a quarter mile to the trail head and back, so a round 6 miles!  Took me 2 hours though.  I tried jogging part of it, but I don't really have a jog 'mode'.  I was either walking or running.  I saw an awesome looking 10-12 point buck.  I so wish I could have shot it!  Yes, I am a total carnivore! lol

My son interrupted me so many times today!  My treadmill reset several times.  I know I did a full 60min, maybe more, then I did weights.  After I was done with all I stopped the 'training' on my hrm and the calories read at 748.  So my old cardio calories must have been way to high.  By like 20-25% I figure.  Kind of a bummer.  But I have never been able to calculate the calories I spend while doing weights, so that kinda makes up for it I guess.

I am really tired today.  I may have over-done it yesterday!  Oops.  My new HRM is cool though.  The treadmill I was on was receiving my heart rate.  I didn't even have to look at the watch!  Hopefully tomorrow I can do a full workout to see how accurate the machine's calorie counter is.  I fear it's way over. :(  On Tuesday, I'm going to wear the band and watch to see how many calories I burn during a normal day.  I wore it for an hour this morning and it said I burned 239 calories.  During one hour.  All I did was unload & reload the dishwasher.

Back down again

I kinda cheated on my diet yesterday.  Ate almost 2300 calories instead of the 1700 I've been focusing on.  I lost those 3lbs again.  Back down to 199.  I know it's all water weight.  Little bit of a mind fuck really.

I did some poking around online yesterday and have reason to believe I have PCOS.  Found some supplements that are suggested to help, so I'm going out today to buy them.  We'll see if that helps with the weight loss.

Sore sore sore!

I don't know if it's from the run yesterday or if all of my gym time is catching up with me.  Or that I fell off the merry-go-round playing with my kids last weekend and bruised my legs pretty bad.  Whatever, my calves were screaming at me.  I thought once I got warmed up it would go away and I'd be ok.  It didn't and I wasn't.  I then punished my arms for my legs' weakness!

I'm getting a little discouraged.  I have gone back up to 202.  I've been here almost a week, I just didn't want to admit it.  Hoping it was water weight and I could flush it out by drinking a ton.  My muscles could be retaining water as they try to heal and rebuild.  I had planned on going for another short run tomorrow, I really enjoyed yesterday, but I think my body needs the rest.  I'm also not going to limit my eating today.  I've been very hungry lately and denying myself so I can reclaim those 3 pounds but it doesn't seem to be working.  I am hungry and I need to listen to my body.  I will still write down what I eat and the calories, but I am going to eat when hungry!

Good news is I have a tracking number for my HRM!!!!  It's being sent by USPS from NY to here, left the facility early this morning.  Should be here Friday or Saturday.  At first I didn't like that they sent it USPS, but then I remembered they have Saturday delivery!  HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY!!

Have to work harder

I'm having to work harder to burn the same amount of calories.  Well it seems harder!  I've added some one min 'sprints' 3 times into today's workout.  Maybe next week I'll do 2 min.  By sprints I mean I'm lightly jogging at 3.5mph instead of walking.  Ok here's what I did today:

That's a LOT of calories!!!  I also lost 7lbs during the month.  YAY!!!

I was 2 min away from my goal.  TWO little min!  Oh well, I'll hit it next month.  I really need to try harder when I go to visit my parents.  They have an elliptical, I just don't use it.  And when we went camping Labor Day weekend, it would have been soooo pretty to go jogging outside.

I was going pretty well.  On my way to 800 again.  Until my son pooped in his pants.  And not just a solid turd, but was a bit diarrhea-ish.  I took his clothes off and put them into a clean garbage, tied it up.  Took him to the shower and hosed him off, while he was screaming!  Dried him off with paper towels.  Then wrapped him in his sister's jacket to get back to the car.  It was quite the ordeal.  I'm still trying to get the smell out of the clothes.  They've been washed 3 times!  That's the last time he gets yogurt and apple juice for breakfast!!

I did the same workout as when I got to 811 calories, but because I weigh less now I'm burning fewer calories.  Kind of a double edged sword.  I am finding that I am doing more at a lower heart rate!  My 'warm up' is now what I thought would be impossible just a few weeks ago.  I am so proud of myself.

I'm jello

I did a lot of arm weights that I normally don't do.  Normally I do lateral pull downs, biceps curls and over the head tricep curls.  Today I also did military press and 2 other  machines to which I don't know the name.  My arms are complete jello!  I even had a hard time opening my laptop!  Definitely having my protein shake now and another before bed tonight!

I did go lighter on the treadmill so I could do weights.  Tomorrow I'm not doing weights so I'm really hoping to break 800 calories!!!  As long as I can still move my arms tomorrow.  Though I don't need them to walk, I do need them to drive! lol :)

I had a few beers last night starting with dinner then had a bourbon and diet coke after the kids went to bed.  Whenever I start drinking before the kids go to bed I always end up with hangover even if I don't drink much.  I think it's just dehydration.  Had a wicked workout regardless!!!  :)

Another weekend off

I couldn't go on Friday, our bug guy came to spray right in the middle of when I'm at the gym.  I scheduled the next visit at a more appropriate time!  I went on Saturday at 6, but the gym doesn't open til 7.  Which I didn't find out until today.  I suppose I could have gone back, but my parents came to town and I wanted to spend time with them.  Then yesterday my husband left for a 6 week long business trip, so I wanted to stay home to spend time with him!  But, even after all the beer I drank with my dad, I'm still down a pound from last Monday.  That is HAPPY!!!  So if I stay away from the beer I might lose 2 pounds this week.  My husband is going to be gone for 6 weeks.  That's how long 'Boot Camp' is.  I am now in my boot camp.  Completely reshape my body in 6 weeks.  He won't recognize me!

Basic Metabolic Rate

So I did some poking around yesterday and found a calculator online to get my BMR.  BMR is how many calories you would spend doing nothing all day long.  Literally nothing, like sleeping for 24 hours.  It fluctuates with age and weight.  Currently mine is 1716.  So if I did nothing and ate 1716 calories a day I would not gain or lose weight.  There is a multiplier depending on your activity level.  I'm mostly sedentary except the days I am able to go to the gym.  The sedentary multiplier is 1.2, which brings my daily caloric needs to 2059.  My goal weight BMR is 1506, which then is 1808 with the multiplier.  So I figure if I limit myself to 1800 calories and continue to workout I should safely reach my goal weight.  When, I have no idea . . .  I'm sure I could come up with some equation to figure it out, but my BMR will change as I lose weight which means my weight loss will slow.  I'm supposed to be matron of honor in a wedding in April.  I don't want to be the 'fat' bridesmaid! lol

I did make myself a chart.  Showing the BMR, BMR with the sedentary multiplier, and their corresponding weights in 5lb increments.  I put it in my food journal so I can check on a weekly (who am I kidding, DAILY) basis what my BMR is.  Yes, I tend to obsess.  It's always been my downfall.  I know what my goal is, what my calorie intake should be to reach that goal.  Why do I feel the need to check and recheck my progress daily?

Oh well.  Time to get off my sedentary butt and get this house clean!! :)

There is another woman that goes to the gym that I talked to today.  She was on the treadmill right next to mine. We chatted the whole time.  It went so fast!!  Her name is Michelle as well!  Sweet gal.  Her kids and mine usually play well together even if my son is a bit of a bully.  Poor thing is a bit bigger than me, but I have noticed she's losing weight.  She's motivational!

I did more of an incline and a bit slower today.  Half way through I had to take my son to the bathroom and start over.  This time I remembered to write down my stats!

A friend is taking my kids for the night so I can have some quiet time.  Which means I will have a quiet morning as well!!  I'm hoping to go to the gym by myself tomorrow.  I might add weights again just because I'll be alone!  I only got to do one set today because of my son.  He's lucky he's so darn cute! ;)

Washout week

So last week was kind of a washout.  I didn't go Friday as I was packing up to go to the lake with my folks.  I had planned on going jogging outside in the morning.  It was so beautiful I wish I would have.  As soon as I got there my allergies kicked my butt!  They still are.  I'm taking 2 Claritin!  I probably won't go to the gym tomorrow either.  Stupid sinuses and allergies. :(

My husband and I only have one car.  He usually takes his motorcycle to work.  Unless, of course, it's raining.  Which it was this morning when he had to leave.  If I had known it was supposed to rain I would have gone for a jog outside before he went to work.  I LOVE the rain!  Oh well, can't win 'em all!

Yesterday

I was totally not feeling it yesterday.  Still, I went.  I was walking for about 6min when I noticed that I had forgotten to input my weight to get a calorie count.  I restarted, figuring I'd just go for 55min instead of the hour.  WELL, not even 10min into it my son decided to get into a fight with another child there.  I paused my machine, but by the time I got back it had erased my progress.  I think I did another 20min or so, not even bothering to get my stats at the end.  So no stats for yesterday, but I did go and I got a good sweat in. :)

Great Weekend!

I increased the incline from 7.5% to 8.5%, and for almost 2 min I upped the speed from 3mph to 4mph.  I could feel it during the workout, but I feel great now.  I didn't add to much. :)

I did have an amazing weekend with my folks and friends.  Drank waaay to much beer, but I did feel myself missing my treadmill time.  That is very happy!

My folks are coming for a visit tomorrow.  They should be here around lunch.  We're also having some friends in that we haven't seen in 3 years.  I'm pretty darn excited.  I am going to the gym tomorrow, but I'm going to take the weekend off to drink myself into oblivion.  Going to have a lot of fun!

First Day of School

Not mine, my daughter's.  She's in first grade this year, which is much easier on me than Kindergarten was!  However, my second daughter starts preschool next week.

I think I'm getting ready to start PMS'ing, so I'm wanting to eat everything in the house today.  Including the chocolate we're bribing our son to potty train with.  Sure I'm more worried about being in better shape, but I still need to lose 50lbs to get back into a 'normal' BMI.  I'm currently 'obese', so my first goal is 'overweight'.  When I get there I am soooo getting a Kindle.  I like to read while I walk, but large print books fall off the little shelf and are kinda heavy.  Normal print books are just to small while in motion.  I have 15lbs to go, so it's not like I'm getting one next week.

Getting the hang of it again.

I had a blog once upon a time, but somehow I can no longer post to it.  I've tried figuring it all out and just can't. Oh well I guess.  I did have close to 20 days worth of stuff on there, I've found the blog but I can't figure out how to post to it again.  I guess that's what I get for not posting in over 6 months!

When I do the treadmill I have the incline at 7.5% for the most part.  On the 4th day (the 15th) I felt like I could have upped the speed or incline a bit but I decided against it.  Couple of reasons; I don't want to push it to hard, I'm going to water aerobics Tuesday (tonight) and Thursday along with a spinning class on Wednesday.  Plus we're having family visiting this weekend, so I won't be going to the gym at all on Saturday or Sunday, so I'll up the incline when I get back into it on Monday.

Speaking of water aerobics this evening, I need to grab a bite to eat and get some stuff ready for that!  I'm excited.  I'm really kind of shy, bordering on anti-social, so I'm a bit nervous but I am really excited about meeting some new people.  Maybe I should have shaved this morning . . .


So water aerobics was cancelled this week.  I'm bummed.  And even more upset about having a short workout today.  My son is potty training, he went before we left the house then again at the gym, yet he still interrupted me just shy of half an hour.  Brat. ;)
